Mahi Mahi (Coryphaena hippurus), Common Dolphinfish

“Strong Strong”

Mahi Mahi is a pelagic fish that has a sweet, moderately mild flavor and a white firm flesh. The word mahi mahi comes from the Hawaiian name, meaning strong strong’ but is also called dolphinfish. Our main supply of this fish comes from the waters surrounding Ecuador where it is caught using a longline. In addition, we will sometimes supplement our Ecuadorian supply with the product from Hawaii and Fiji where it is also caught using a long line. You may grill, sautée, steam, bake, or fry this versatile fish and it will always turn out delicious.

Sustainability

Mahi caught by Ecuadorian fleets in the Southeast Pacific with drifting longlines was rated as a “Good Alternative” by the Monterey Seafood Watch Program. The population status of mahi mahi is unknown, but overfishing is unlikely. The fishery is managed with a comprehensive plan with sustainability regulations in mind.
