California Squid (Loligo opalescens), Calamari
California squid is one of the most common, sustainable, cheap, and plentiful creatures of the sea. Part of the mollusk family, the squid are around 4-6 inches. This product comes whole and uncleaned, for instructions on how to clean the squid you can watch this video.
A Bycatch Product
Fisher people purse seine method of fishing to catch this squid. Purse seines consist of a long wall of netting that’s used to surround a school of fish and is eventually closed like a drawstring purse. Fresh squid is only available during select times because it is actually a by-catch species of other target fish.
