Grown in Japanese Waters
Hokkaido scallops are tender, sweet, and creamy shellfish sourced from the coastline of Hokkaido. Japanese waters provide the ideal environment for these scallops to grow and thrive due to a mix of cold and warm water currents that pass through the scallop farm. Hokkaido’s are frozen in Japan and undergo a natural thawing process to retain texture and moisture without any chemicals and without adding false weight to the product.
Sashimi Grade Scallops
These sashimi-grade sea scallops are the preferred product for sushi chefs worldwide. Hokkaido’s can be grilled or delicately sauteed, but we recommend eating them raw to maximize the beautifully sweet flavor and tender texture.
Sustainability
Royal Hawaiian Seafood (RHS) works closely with their suppliers to source quality traceable Hokkaido scallops. Our suppliers are MSC certified scallop experts that do not treat any of the scallops with chemicals such as tripolyphosphates (a chemical which makes the scallops more tender and plusher). The scallops are harvested using a dredging method giving it a yellow ranking from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
Our Mission.
As a 100% transparent and sustainable seafood supplier, Royal Hawaiian was one of the first seafood processors in the country to collaborate with the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch program to ensure that we only sell products from fisheries that are responsibly harvested or aqua-cultured.
