Black Cod (Anoplopoma fimbria), Sablefish

Soft, Succulent, and Buttery

One of the market names for Black Cod is “Butterfish”. Black cod contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids (comparable to salmon) which are said to improve health and brain function.

The high levels of natural fish oil in black cod makes the fish’s flesh soft, succulent, and tender.  Since the skin is thick, we recommend serving the fillets skin-on as it becomes crispy when seared. Black Cod is an extremely versatile fish and is assured to provide customers with a great tasting sustainable option.

Local producers for a local fish

When available, we try to source products from local fisher people to help support our communities. Fisherpeople catch black cod along the Pacific Westcoast. The majority of our supply comes from Fort Bragg and Morro Bay where it is longline caught. The Monterey Seafood Watch Program rates this black cod as a ‘Good Alternative’

Our Mission.
As a 100% transparent and sustainable seafood supplier, Royal Hawaiian was one of the first seafood processors in the country to collaborate with the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch program to ensure that we only sell products from fisheries that are responsibly harvested or aquacultured.
