Sustainability

We must take sustainability seriously and protect the resources you depend on if you want to have a business that is sustainable for years to come.

More than Just Fish

Sustainability is the cornerstone of our business. We source local first, then expand out from there. We have principles and we don’t source from just anyone. Our highest priority is transparency in fishery and farm management. We ask the hard questions and vet each supplier, ensuring we source only well managed, sustainable seafood products.

Our Standards

We prioritize safe, sustainable, tested, and traceable practices by sourcing responsibly, supporting sustainability initiatives, ensuring top-quality products through rigorous testing, and maintaining full traceability from vessel to table to protect both you and the environment.

Safe

We source all of our products from responsible fisheries and handle everything with the upmost care. Our products are fresh, tested, and sure to be safe for you to enjoy.

Sustainable

We make healthy choices for the ocean when we source our products, including many options on the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch recommended list. We believe in educating fisherman and supporting Fishery Improvement Projects that improve sustainability and management practices as well as reducing by-catch and sourcing from sustainable farms.

Tested

Our experts cut and prepare our fish and seafood fresh every day. As part of this process, we find imperfections, blood lines and tendons and remove them leaving an undeniable quality and consistency in presentation and taste. We test products sourced from our partners for compliance in sustainable practices to ensure we are providing the best products that are good for you and the environment.

Traceable

We pride ourselves in tracing our products all the way back to the vessels that collected them. With thoughtfully sourced products and the data that comes with them, we can make healthy and sustainable decisions regarding which products we offer. We rely on sustainability experts for recommendations for types of productions and locations that keep you and our world safe and healthy.

Renew San Francisco Bay

Royal Hawaiian Seafood’s founder Jordan Bow established Renew SF Bay. This non-profit organization’s goal is to increase Ocean Literacy through community outreach and wetland restoration. Renew SF Bay is collaborating with the Wild Oyster Project to grow their Save Your Shucks program. The Save Your Shucks program was started in 2018 with a handful of restaurants who agreed to collect their oyster shells from dinner service in reusable buckets. The Wild Oyster Project picked up and stored the shells for two years until they were incorporated into Heron’s Head Shoreline Resilience Project. Royal Hawaiian has recruited their biggest oyster users to collect their shells and plans on using these shells to restore the shoreline stretching from Sierra Point to Candlestick Point just south of San Francisco. Oyster beds are the foundation of the intertidal ecosystem, which provide habitat and nursery grounds for a host of marine life.

How we Get our partners
