Known to many as calamari, our local squid is tasty, versatile, and nutritious! Popular in many Mediterranean dishes, squid can be prepared in a number of ways. In traditional Mediterranean cooking squid is often stuffed and braised or deep fried as calamari. Squid is a very nutritious seafood and is rich is proteins, Omega-3, B-vitamins and minerals such as Cooper, Zinc, and Iodine.
Sustainability
This squid is caught using purse seine method of fishing. Purse seines consists of a long wall of netting that’s used to surround a school of fish and is eventually closed like a drawstring purse. California market squid caught California with purse seines is a “Best Choice.” There isn’t a full stock assessment and the likelihood of overfishing is unknown, but the available evidence suggests the stock is healthy.
