PEI Mussel (Mytilus edulis)
Mussels are a ‘power’ food as they contain high levels of proteins and vitamins. PEI Mussels can be incorporated into several dishes such as salads, soups, and mussel shooters but they are also great simply steamed by themselves
PEI Mussel farmers use the longline system to grow these bivalves. The mussels are held together in socks (mesh sleeves) and tied to anchored or moored buoy rope. The ropes which they are hung on ensures that there is no dredging or disturbance to the ocean floor. Furthermore, the production and processing of PEI Mussels are conducted in such a way that the industry’s effect on the environment is gentle and positive.
