Langoustine (Metanephrops Challengeri), Scampi
Langoustine, also known as scampi, is one of New Zealand’s most noteworthy delicacies. This small, slender deep-water lobster is widely recognized as the finest-tasting in its class. Langoustine has sweet, succulent flesh and great omega-3 content.
Scampi inhabits much of New Zealand’s deep waters. Our suppliers source this product from the continental shelf areas of the Bay of Plenty and the Auckland Islands, Campbell Plateau, and Chatam Rise. Furthermore, the langoustine are caught in depths of 500-2000 feet, and these small crustaceans live in burrows in the soft sediment, so are caught via specialized deep-sea trawl gear.
As a 100% transparent and sustainable seafood supplier, Royal Hawaiian was one of the first seafood processors in the country to collaborate with the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch program to ensure that we only sell products from fisheries that are responsibly harvested or aquacultured.
